Automatic Focus & Time Tracking

We measure the micro-moments. You master the macro-goals.

Kshan is an automatic time tracker for desktop. It logs which app and window you're in, sorts it into categories with rules, and lets you plan the next day on a built-in calendar.

Built for people who forget to hit start

Most time trackers ask you to do the tracking. Kshan doesn't.

Before
Manual timers get abandoned by Thursday
You start the day motivated, forget to hit "stop," and by the end of the week the numbers mean nothing.
With Kshan
Kshan tracks automatically
It watches the active window every few seconds in the background. There is no start button to forget.
Before
Screenshots and keyloggers feel like surveillance
Tools built for employers to watch employees make for an uneasy way to understand your own habits.
With Kshan
Kshan only reads window titles
No screen recordings, no keystrokes, no mouse clicks — ever. Just which application and window is active.
Before
Spreadsheets show totals, not patterns
A weekly total tells you how much time you spent. It doesn't tell you when your focus actually broke down.
With Kshan
A timeline reveals the pattern
A color-coded daily timeline and focus score show exactly when you were deep in work and when you weren't.

From the first window to the end-of-day email

Kshan tracks automatically, turns raw sessions into scores and reports, and gives you a calendar to plan tomorrow — without a single screenshot.

Track

  • Logs the active app and window every 5 seconds — no timers to start
  • Tracks website domains separately from apps in every major browser
  • Local rules assign a category instantly; anything unmatched is classified by AI
  • A Do Not Track list for apps and sites you never want logged
  • Starts at login and lives in your menu bar or system tray

Understand

  • Focus Quality Score — one 0–100 number for how focused your day was
  • Interactive daily timeline with hover stats, zoom and pan
  • Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly reports
  • Habit Spotlight — your top apps and top websites, side by side
  • End-of-day email with your metrics, plus an AI summary on Pro

Plan

  • Built-in calendar with day, week, month and year views
  • Drag tasks from the backlog onto the grid to timebox them
  • Every scheduled block shows planned time vs. what you actually tracked
  • Task blocks appear on the dashboard timeline and in reports
  • Complete the current task straight from the tray menu

Connect & extend

  • Google and Apple Calendar events overlaid on your day
  • Pull tasks from Trello, GitHub, Jira, Linear, Asana, monday.com, Todoist, Notion, Slack and Gmail
  • Built-in MCP server so Claude Code or Claude Desktop can plan your day
  • Local backups to Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive or iCloud Drive
  • Optional cloud sync, opt-in per data type, in 10 languages

A timeline that shows when focus actually happened

Every session is grouped into a continuous, color-coded timeline. Hover any block in the app to see the app, duration, and category instantly — this preview mirrors the real desktop chart.

A calendar that knows what you actually did

Drag a task from the backlog onto an hour. When the day is over, each block shows how much of that planned time you really spent on it.

  • Backlog on the left, hours on the right

Kshan tasks and live items from any connected tool sit in one sidebar. Drop them on the day or week grid to schedule.

  • Planned vs. actual on every block

Tracked sessions are matched against each timebox, so a 2-hour block that got 40 minutes of real work says so.

  • Plan it from anywhere

Add and schedule tasks from the tray menu, or let Claude Code do it through Kshan's MCP server.

Bring your calendar and your task list with you

Connect the tools you already use. Events overlay your day grid, tasks land in the backlog, and nothing is duplicated.

MCP server, built in

Kshan exposes its daily tasks over the Model Context Protocol. Point Claude Code or Claude Desktop at it and say "add these three tasks and schedule the report for 9am".

What Kshan never sees

Privacy isn't a settings toggle you have to remember to enable — it's how the tracker is built.

No screenshots

Kshan never captures your screen, ever, on any plan.

No keystrokes or clicks

It reads the active window's app name and title only — nothing you type or click is recorded.

No passwords or banking apps

Built-in filters recognize password managers and banking apps and skip them automatically.

No incognito tabs

Private browsing windows are detected and excluded before anything is written to disk.

Nothing leaves your machine

All logs live in a local SQLite database by default. Cloud sync is opt-in, per model, never automatic.

Local-first by default

Every session is written to a local SQLite database first. Cloud sync is opt-in per data type and only ever backs up your own history to your own account — nothing is shared, sold, or used to train anything.

Quick answers

How does Kshan track my active window time?
Kshan checks the name and window title of the foreground application on your primary screen.
How does the categorization (rules) engine work?
Kshan matches the active app name, window title, and browser URL domain against local rules — yours and the built-in defaults — to assign a category instantly. Anything that doesn't match a rule is queued for review instead of being silently mislabeled.
Can I plan my day in Kshan, not just track it?
Yes. Kshan has a built-in calendar with day, week, month and year views. Drag tasks from the backlog onto the grid to timebox them, and each block then shows how much tracked time actually landed inside it. Connected tools like Trello, GitHub, Jira, Linear, Todoist or Notion feed their tasks straight into the same backlog.
